Turn Clearances into Impact
Facilities Management, Done Differently
The built environment generates around 42% of global COâ‚‚ emissions, creating a huge opportunity for Facilities Management professionals to drive change. By embedding circular economy principles in procurement and operations, FM leaders can reduce waste, cut embodied carbon, and demonstrate measurable ESG outcomes.
At Waste to Wonder Worldwide, we work with facilities managers to transform clearances into a force for good. Surplus assets are diverted away from waste and redirected to schools and charities worldwide, ensuring environmental savings while also supporting communities.
This represents a unique opportunity for Facilities Management professionals to:
Champion circular economy solutions within their organisations
Reduce environmental impact from fit-outs and clearances
Strengthen ESG reporting with measurable social and community benefit
Support global education and community development projects

SEE ESG IN ACTION
In London’s Canary Wharf, one of the world’s busiest financial districts, CitiBank embarked on a major £300m+ tower refurbishment at 25 Canada Square. Instead of demolition, Citi chose to modernise the building to meet today’s efficiency and environmental standards – a decision that prevented the release of an estimated 100,000 tonnes of embodied carbon.
As part of the project, Waste to Wonder Worldwide was tasked with managing the ethical clearance of 29 floors of office space, in partnership with CBRE and Overbury. The scale was enormous, and so too was the potential for impact.
From desks and chairs to storage cabinets and computer monitors, more than 20,000 items were collected. While no longer needed by Citi, these goods were far from waste – they were highly reusable. Redirecting them to schools and charities prevented over 539,000kg of resources from going to landfill and delivered an incredible £1.2m in social value through donated goods.
Charities and community organisations both in London and across the globe received this equipment, helping to improve classrooms, offices, and community spaces. The ripple effects of this project will continue for years – transforming lives through access to resources that would otherwise have been lost.
By taking this approach, CitiBank demonstrated how Facilities Management can go beyond compliance to deliver meaningful ESG results, aligning refurbishment with both environmental responsibility and life-changing social impact.
